No sleeves

The truth is, those shoulders are wide enough, so I'm not making sleeves. Period. I crocheted the front and back together and I am adding edging to one armhole. I'm being careful not to let the crochet edging overlap around the armhole. That way I will still be able to separate the two pieces if necessary. I'll need to keep that in mind when I weave in the ends too.

In the meantime, I found this very entertaining:

I enjoyed my previous dyeing experience a lot, so I might try this. I would first have to see if Kool-Aid is actually cheaper than my Wal-Mart dye (kidding!).

The real problem will be that you have to use wool, so I cannot use my beloved cheap cotton for a Kool-Aid dye along. But wait a minute, soy silk is a protein fiber, isn't it?

The back is finished

And I already seamed the shoulders together. Take a look at it:

Now I face a new dilemma: I intend to crochet the sides together, and this will allow me to adjust the width to my mother-in-law's liking.

My husband is very afraid that it might not fit her, since she never gave me measurements in inches (or even centimeters). He even wants me to wait until Christmas. But this is a summer top and she won't be able to wear it then, no matter how mild winters might be in Spain.

I happen to know her size (in European clothing sizes) and believe that I can finish it now and mail it to her, and I'm still willing to make adjustments when I visit her for Christmas. But adjustments will not be easy if I decide to add cap sleeves. Should I even consider them?

Still not blogging much

And not knitting much either, I confess. I've accepted a new position and I'm quite busy getting prepared for the change. I'll still be working at my current job until the end of the month, but I'm already excited about the new one. Here's a picture of the orange nightmare:

Notice how I become less and less attached to a project as time goes by.

Bad week for blogging

And for knitting, too. Does it happen to you, that when you miss a deadline you become completely repelled by the project? It's happening to me now. Look how little I've completed of the back so far:

But if this piece is to be worn this year at all I should start working again on it so I can mail it.

Meanwhile, there's a new job offer that I'm about to accept... Exciting! But I still need to finish a lot of things around here before I do. Let's see how it goes.

I missed my deadline

But hey, I knew it was going to happen, so it's not a big deal. My brother-in-law went back to Spain today and I missed the opportunity to send the orange top. But we got to enjoy our visitor's company, which I would have missed if I'd been knitting like a maniac trying to finish on time.

Still a good girl

The front is finished!

I cast on immediately for the back and started working on it:

So, any bets on whether or not I'll finish by August 8?*

*it's monthly report week, keep that in mind.
